The name 'Pyrope' comes from the Greek word meaning 'fire-eyed'. During the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, Pyrope Garnets from Bohemia became famous throughout Europe and adorned royal crowns, military insignia, and aristocratic jewelry collections.

Origin

Pyrope Garnets are found in Sri Lanka, the Czech Republic, South Africa, Tanzania, and Mozambique.
